Google is trying to make its Goggle app for smartphones smarter and more user-friendly. The latest app update to the Google app on Android and iOS adds a new feature called Tappable Shortcuts to it. It will be available only in the US right now, but should be rolling out in more countries over the coming weeks.

Tappable Shortcuts can enhance the abilities of the Google app by adding shortcut buttons for existing set of feeds such as sports, people, places, transport, apps and websites and a new set of options such as translate, nearby attractions, flights, hotels, internet speed test and currency converter.

A few shortcuts will appear at the top of the homepage right under the search bar on the Google app with an arrow icon at the corner. Tapping on the arrow icon will take the user to the shortcut page where they can see all the available shortcuts with distinct looking icons at one place. These shortcuts are further divided into specific categories.

Usually, users have to rely on the feeds that show in the card format or can type the relevant keyword in the search bar.

Tappable Shortcuts will speed up things by showing up results after a single tap on the shortcut button. So if you are looking for the latest movie trailers, for instance, you just have to tap on the Trailer shortcut and you can see all the latest trailers on a single page. Similarly, if you are looking for nearby eating options, the Eat and Drink shortcut will show all the dining options in your neighbourhood.

All the information that you can get through shortcuts is already available on Google app but in a scattered manner. With shortcuts, they are all available on a single page.
