Sky Dancer, the endless runner game you can’t miss
Sky Dancer is a refreshing game, and not just another spin-off of Subway Surfers or Temple Run
Endless runner game genre is becoming quite popular among games designed for smartphones. The likes of Temple Run and Subway Surfers are two of the most downloaded games in this genre, but they tend to become repetitive after a while.
Sky Dancer, a new mobile game, brings that element of freshness that has been missing in this genre for some time now. Developed by a Vietnamese start-up Pine Entertainment, Sky Dancer is available for free download on Google Play Store and the App Store.
Visual treat
Unlike the Temple Run or the Subway Surfers, which look a bit cartoonish in terms of certain visual elements, the Sky Dancer relies on more realistic 3D visuals and is the reason why it looks a lot lively and breathtaking.
The game is set in outer space with floating stone paths suspended in the air but held close due to some gravitational force. The sun and the moon in the background look massive and their movement keeps changing the colour of the sky. This changes the background and adds variety to the visuals. Like most running games, there are multiple characters that one can choose from. These characters have unique names, wear different attire and have special abilities. While a few of them are available from the start, you need to pay up to unlock the more advanced characters.
Challenging to play
What makes the Sky Dancer unique is the fact that it is not simply about running, sliding or jumping to dodge obstacles or outrunning the enemy. A major part of the game involves hopping from one rock to another. The caveat here is that getting the player to land on the next rock is upon you and not on the game’s AI which usually steps in games like Temple Run to assist players to land correctly after every jump. In Sky Dancer, every jump is equivalent to a long dive and the next rock is never in a straight line. Users have to keep a close eye and use on-screen touch controls to steer the player in the air. The on-screen controls are similar to that of Subway Surfers—you control the player’s trajectory with single and double taps. Some of the controls like jumping require players to use both hands. This is one of the most challenging runner games we have seen until now.
Why should you download it?
The game is free to download, but you might have to rely on in-app purchases starting at Rs65 and going up to Rs6,600. However, unlike games that stifle the player’s progress to compel them to go for in-app purchases, Sky Dancer can be played without paying a dime, though that will be the longer route to the finish line. Also, you will have to wait for a long while until you have enough coins (the in-game currency) to buy new characters.
The game works offline which means you can play it anywhere. Despite its stunning graphics, the game has been optimised well for low-configuration devices and takes up just 109MB of space after installation. It is a must-have game if you are a fan of the endless runners but have been growing tired of it due to the repetitiveness.
