The audio medium has gained immense popularity recently. Podcasts form a big part of this format, but it is often difficult to listen to every episode you like. Moonbeam is a new app that gives you the best moments from your favourite podcasts, in the form of a personalized podcast discovery feed.
Moonbeam was released recently and, according to a press release, aims to solve the biggest problem facing the industry: finding new podcasts. Using a unique combination of machine-learning technology and a team of human curators, Moonbeam eliminates the need to endlessly scroll through antiquated podcast directories that are crowded with millions of shows, the release explains.
Once you sign up for Moonbeam, you choose your favourite areas of interest—from arts, science, health, sports to news etc. Moonbeam then curates small clips from different podcast episodes for you to listen to in a personalized feed – this main feed is called "Beam”. If you like a clip, you can click on the “continue listening” button and it takes you to the full, original episode. If you don’t like the content, then simply swipe up. These actions feed Moonbeam’s algorithm, the release explains.
From the app’s home page, you can see all the clips curated from your favourite topics or even listen to them category wise. Your favourite sections appear at the top in the form of tabs. You can select three or more topics of interest and also refine these further. For instance, in “Science”, you can choose from areas like astronomy, nature or mathematics. In the settings area, you can even toggle the play speed and filter explicit content. Once you like an episode or clip, it appears in the app's library.
Think of Moonbeam as an RSS feed for short-form audio— only, it does a similar job in getting you the best bits from an array of podcasts. The app’s user interface is easy to use and intuitive. Another handy feature lets you import any existing subscriptions from other podcast apps and play them on Moonbeam.
