Photo- and document-scanning apps have always been in vogue. But it is tricky to find a good colourisation app that can add life to your old black and white pictures. Colorize is one such app, and offers impressive results.
Using it is almost like operating a point and shoot camera. You can either scan or upload/import a black and white to Colorize from your device. The app uses Artificial Intelligence to add colour to your photograph in five-six seconds. You can even see before and after results in one frame using a slider.
The app works particularly well on portraits and you will find handy tips within Colorize to scan photographs. For instance, you need to place your photograph on a smooth, even surface with a clean background before starting the scanning. Hold the phone close to the photograph so that it fills up the maximum space in the viewfinder’s frame. The less margins, the better. If you click a photograph horizontally, the app detects that and turns the photo clockwise or anti-clockwise accordingly. Finally, always hold the camera directly above the photograph, rather than at an angle. Before you start using the app, you can even try an interactive tutorial in the help and support section.
Colorize is available for both Android and iOS but comes with in-app purchases, including a monthly subscription plan of ₹520/month for unlimited usage, storage and sharing options.
