CES 2017: Crazy concepts and most innovative gadgets
A round up of some of the craziest gadgets unveiled at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show
At the CES 2017, major players dominated the show with new product unveilings that will be released later this year. Amidst all these big launches, we came across a few unique and highly innovative products that defied logic. Interestingly, it wasn’t the start-ups which were behind them. Some of the big brands surprised the audience with some very crazy design and features.
LeEco Smart Bikes
LeEco has unveiled two smart cycles called Smart Road Bike and the Smart Mountain Bike at this year’s CES. What makes these cycles special is the fact that they also have an operating system of their own, called the Bike OS, a customised version of Android OS. Both cycles have a 4-inch touchscreen based device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and a 6,000 mAh removable battery. The display can be used for turn-by-turn navigation using Here Maps app or play music. One can also chat with other riders with similar LeEco cycles through the built in microphone. The cycles will start shipping in US in before June 2017.
Kuri Robot
Kuri is a home robot developed by US based start-up Mayfield Robotics with the backing of Bosch Technologies. It is designed like a toy, has its own set of wheels and is fitted with a camera too. The camera allows Kuri to keep an eye on your house, children or pets while you are away. It can wheel around on its own or can be remotely controlled with an app. It can also remember faces of people living in the house. So, when it sees an unknown face it will immediately send out alert to the parents. You can also use it as a speaker to play music over Bluetooth. Kuri will be available in US sometime in December 2017 at $699.
Sleep Number 360 smart bed
This is a unique bed which automatically adjusts itself according to your posture and body movements while you are sleeping. For example, it will tilt the head side of the bed upwards if it hears you snore. Similarly, if your legs are cold, it will switch on the foot warmer. The bed uses biometric sensor called Sleep IQ which can monitor your heart rate, breathing, movement and sleep quality. The 360 smart bed will be available in stores in US by June 2016. Sleep Number is yet to announce the price of the bed.
Acer Predator 21x laptop
Acer’s Predator 21x is an immensely powerful gaming laptop with an insanely hefty form factor. It weighs 8kg which makes it the heaviest laptop around. It comes with a huge 21-inch curved display, runs Windows 10 and is powered by Intel Core i7 chip with two Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs and 64GB RAM. To keep the laptop cool, Acer has used an advanced cooling architecture with five cooling fans and nine heat pipes. Acer has also added four speakers and two sub-woofers for high quality audio output in games.
Hydrao smart showerhead
Hydrao is a Bluetooth enabled showerhead designed to help users monitor and reduce the water consumption during shower. It comes with built-in LED lights which changes colour form green to purple and then red to let the user know when they are using too much water. Developed by French company Smart and Blue, Hydrao allows users to adjust the amount of water after which the light changes colour using Hydrao’s mobile app. The Hydrao showerhead is already available online in US for $99.
Wair Face Mask
Keeping the rising levels in air pollution in mind, a French company Wair has come up with a face mask with built in filters and fans. The three layered filter will keep out the pm particles, dust, allergens and bacteria while the fan will bring in fresh air simultaneously so one can breathe fresh air as well. The fans run on battery built-in within the mask. What makes it better than a regular face mask is that it doesn’t look like one. It looks like a scarf and is available in different colours and design patterns. The Face Mask can be pre-ordered on Wair website. It starts at $72.
LG Signature 4K OLED W Series TV
LG’s new OLED W Series TV impresses with its wafer thin form-factor. It measures 3.8mm making it the thinnest TVs ever made. This was accomplished by keeping the TV’s brains separate from the display. The innards are packed inside the Dolby powered speaker box which connects to the TV through a proprietary cable. It runs Webs OS and supports wireless connectivity. Available in 65-inch and 75-inch variants, the new TV offers 4K resolution and supports 4k HDR video formats. The smaller variant will start shipping from March while the bigger model will arrive later.
Panasonic Lumix GH5 camera
Panasonic’s new mirrorless digital camera GH5 has a 20.3-megapixel sensor, offer max ISO of 25,600, is WiFi enabled, and carries a full-fledged HDMI port. However, what really sets it apart from other cameras in the market is its ability to capture photos in 6K resolution. In addition to being dust and splash proof, it can also withstand extreme cold. Priced at $1,999, the new camera will be released in US in March 2017.
