Many researchers believe that spending time on solving puzzle games can be relaxing and even help avert conditions like dementia as they can provide human brain the stimulus it needs to function properly. According to a study published in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry in April 2015, puzzle solving activities can have a positive impact on reasoning, spatial working memory and episodic memory. Interestingly, if you have a smartphone or a tablet, you don’t have to go anywhere. Both iOS and Android platforms offer plenty of mind-bending puzzle games.

Deus Ex Go

Rs60

Available on Android, iOS

It is a turn-based puzzle game inspired by the game of chess. The only difference is that instead of square boxes, the game takes place on a hexagonal grid divided into multiple nodes. When it’s the player’s turn, he has to guide agent Adam Jensen on the nodes in such a way that he doesn’t fall in the hit zone of the enemy, or falls in a trap. The game is quite challenging but if you have a knack for puzzle-solving, you will love the action-packed brain twisters it offers.

Cubway

Free

Available on Android, iOS

Cubway is a unique game where the player has to guide a red coloured cube through 55 challenging levels with three alternate endings. The game’s key highlight is the unique gameplay. The controls are touch based and easy to master, and require the user to tap on the left to move backwards and right to move forward. The trick to get past the obstacles is to control the speed and position of the cube. The use of shadows and colours to liven up the game built on a geometric figure is quite impressive.

Symettria

Free

Android, iOS

This is a game for people who have a thing for symmetry. The game requires one to fill colour boxes in the right side of the screen until they match the mirror reflection on the other side. The trouble is you have to do it in a very short period. The game is immensely simple yet challenging and tests your ability to make quick moves. The game works offline and is divided into duels, campaign and endless games.

Angry Birds Blast

Free

Android, iOS

This is where Angry Birds meets the popular puzzle game Candy Crush. The Angry Birds Blast works by tapping on balloons that are paired with at least two balloons of the same colour to release the birds trapped in them. The game looks a lot more animated and lively than Candy Crush games, and is equally challenging due to the limit on the number of moves. It works offline and offers about 270 levels. If you have played the Candy Crush over and over, you can try this.

Moveless Chess

Free

Available on Android

This is a fun take on chess that doesn’t require users to partake in an entire game of chess with Facebook friends or the AI. It reduces the game time significantly by putting the user in the last few moments of any game and then asks them to finish off the opponent’s king in limited number of moves. The idea is to do away with the boring moments in a game and take users directly to the best moment of the game.
