Uber boats to launch soon
- The ride-sharing app is set to start a pilot boat service in Mumbai
- UberBOAT will offer speedboats in two variants: the UberBOAT, and the UberBOAT XL
While Uber might be among the most used taxi and ride-sharing apps in India, the launch of the first UberBOAT service in Mumbai will offer a leisure variant. Using this service, visitors to the Elephanta Caves and Alibaug will be able to bypass the serpentine queues for regular ferries, cut down travel time and avoid haggling with the private speedboat operators that ply these routes. So a day out at the cave temples of Elephanta, a designated Unesco World Heritage Site, or a luncheon at one of Alibaug’s waterside restaurants will require far less planning. UberBOAT will offer speedboats in two variants: the UberBOAT, for six-eight passengers, and the UberBOAT XL, which can accommodate 10-plus passengers. This pilot project is being introduced in partnership with the Mumbai Maritime Board, with the service set to ply between the Gateway of India, Elephanta Caves and Mandwa Jetty, Alibaug, on the existing ferry routes. The service is supposed to go live soon and you will be able to book boats through the existing Uber app 15 minutes before departure.
UberBOAT will ply between the Gateway of India, Elephanta Caves and Mandwa Jetty, Alibaug, from 8am-5pm. The UberBOAT will be priced at ₹5,700 for the whole boat, while the UberBOAT XL will cost ₹9,500. Seats cannot be booked individually.
