Mobile World Congress 2016: ZTE Spro Plus projector runs Android 6.0
It uses a new projection technology that improves performance and reduces power consumption
Smartphone maker ZTE has announced a new Android-based mobile projector at the Mobile World Congress 2016 (22-25 February) in Barcelona. Called the Spro Plus, this projector runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and succeeds the Spro 2, which was released this year in India and is selling at ₹ 74,990 (Amazon.in).
The key highlight is that it uses laser-projection technology, which is used to create light, instead of the conventional LED projection system. An LED projector generates white light first and then red, blue and green, whereas a laser projector creates these colours simultaneously. This makes laser projectors more power efficient and durable than LED-based lamp projectors. They also improve the performance in terms of colour accuracy and quality of visuals.
The Spro Plus is capable of projecting 80-inch videos or images from a distance of 2.4m. The native brightness of 500 lumens should be adequate for most home and office-usage scenarios. It supports both vertical and horizontal keystroke correction. Keystroke correction allows projectors to create a rectangular image even if they are not placed perpendicular to the projected screen. For audio, it has two 2.4W speakers made by JBL, a brand well known for its portable audio products. It also supports Bluetooth, which means users can pair it with a Bluetooth controller and use it for gaming.
The Spro Plus has an 8.4-inch AMOLED screen, with a resolution of 2,560x1,440p. This is much improved compared to its predecessor’s 1,280x720p resolution on a 5-inch display. It supports multi-touch and works just like a smartphone.
The entire package weighs less than 1kg, which makes it portable. It also has a 12,100 mAh battery and comes in two variants—Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi with LTE. The latter will provide support for movie and music-streaming services.
The ZTE Spro Plus will be available in June in some countries, though there’s no word on its price yet.
