Indus OS Recharge 2.0 is designed to make life easier for prepaid users
Recharge 2.0 feature can help users on prepaid connections keep tabs on their talktime balance and data usage patterns, and also get recharge suggestions
Developers of the multi-lingual Indus OS are rolling out a new feature called Recharge 2.0 on the 6 million devices running Indus OS. The Recharge 2.0 is an Android operating system integrated balance analytics tool which works continually in the background keeping track of user’s spending on each call, text messages and mobile data. The new feature will work with all prepaid mobile connections, across all mobile service providers.
Indus OS has also tied up with mobile payment wallet Freecharge to provide a single tap recharge option to Indus OS users. Based on the user’s consumption pattern, Freecharge will suggest the prepaid plans that may be more ideal for the user. So if your consumption of data is higher than on calls, it will suggest plans that offer more data and less talk time.

How Recharge 2.0 works
The availability of attractive deals and offers makes prepaid connections very popular among users, but they are not without downsides. Prepaid plans have a fixed talktime or data with every recharge that you do. If you aren’t paying attention, or happen to do heavy call or data usage, the bundled talktime and data limits will get exhausted very quickly.
The other problem is that there is no way to get the overall usage pattern which could tell how much a user had spent on a call or text message and if there is another recharge option that may offer better value for your usage pattern. USSD or SMS based balance requests made to telecom service provider only gives detail on the overall talktime and data balance on the phone.
Recharge 2.0 can help users by showing their talktime balance and usage pattern in the Indus dialler app. The total balance will show at the top of the dialler page while the breakup of exactly how much money was spent on a call will show in the call logs. The information is gathered by Indus OS from the operator after every call is made and then furnished to user.
Additional benefits
To help users recharge their phone on time when their balance is low, Indus OS allows users to set thresholds for low balance alerts. If a user’s balance drops below that threshold amount, a notification will be sent asking them to recharge their phone. The integration with Freecharge can help users recharge their phone with a few taps. Tapping on the notification alert will redirect users to the Freecharge interface where they can recharge their phone with a plan of their liking or by simply going with the plan suggested by the mobile wallet.
The one tap recharge feature and plan suggestions works only with Freecharge so you can’t avail of its benefits if you are using some other payment wallet for recharging your balance. However, the option to keep track of all your expenses on calls, text messages and data is cool and will help prepaid users make better recharge decisions in the future.
