Getting a makeover

The newly refurbished Bangalore International Centre (BIC) is throwing open its doors to the public on 24 February with the BIC Fest—a curated set of talks, film screenings, theatre performances, an art park, and a dedicated children’s corner.

The BIC, a non-profit, member- and donor- supported public institution (funded by Nilekani Philanthropies and Wipro, among others, with prominent names such as Girish Karnad and V. Ravichandar on the board of governors) was founded in November 2005 as a cultural centre in a city starved of public spaces. Recently, the BIC completed the construction of its new building, a 48,000 sq. ft space approved by the GRIHA Council (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment), and the festival is an opportunity to showcase the new premises and an updated calendar. The festival will have a dance performance by the Attakkalari Institute, a screening of Goopi Gawaiyaa Bagha Bajaiyaa, children’s sessions by author Roopa Pai and a team from Amar Chitra Katha, and a performance by Japanese musical ensemble Harayu Kimora.

The BIC Fest will be held on 24 February, 11am-8pm, on the new BIC premises in Domlur II Stage, Bengaluru.
