Conflict watch
A new portal maps and analyses cases of conflict over land acquisitions in India. Here's more
Land acquisition for development projects in India has never been an easy task.
Conflict over such acquisitions has, in fact, been increasing steadily. Landconflictwatch.org, a new portal developed by a group of journalists and researchers, is now trying to map and analyse such conflicts across the country. According to the portal, still a work in progress, there are at least 327 ongoing cases of conflict across the country, affecting more than 3.5 million people.
The site is easy to navigate, with an interactive map that allows you to search for specific topics, such as the rehabilitation of displaced people, or do a sector-wise search. The search can be filtered down to the state and district levels too.
This is also a citizen journalism initiative, so you can report a conflict that is not already on the portal.
