Art on your radar

  •  Art, especially great art, surely deserves undivided attention
  • In ‘12 Shows To Catch’, we’ve picked a concise, but by no means exhaustive, list of exhibitions that should be on your radar

It’s said that the average time a person spends looking at a work of art in a museum is roughly 30 seconds. But art, especially great art, surely deserves undivided attention. So, we thought that our readers could do with some help navigating the constellation of art events this year.

In ‘12 Shows To Catch’, we’ve picked a concise, but by no means exhaustive, list of exhibitions that should be on your radar. Those yet to be initiated into the practice of collecting art, who don’t know where to begin, may turn to “The Collector’s Guide To The Art Galaxy" for some expert tips. Your first milestone, however, should be the India Art Fair, now into its 11th edition. We focus on some of the unmissable art debuts, performances and walks that must be on your agenda.

In these pages, turn to interviews with artists Anita Dube, Atul Dodiya and Jitish Kallat. Dube, curator of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2018, deconstructs the makings of it; Dodiya brought in his 60th birthday and new solo show this month; and Kallat released his monograph surveying two decades of his oeuvre. Can half a minute ever be enough?
