Bombay Hemp Company (Boheco) Life, the Mumbai-based producer of hemp-derived nutritional, lifestyle and wellness products, has just launched its first offline store in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar. Incorporated in 2013, and co-founded by six young entreprenuers, it is an agro enterprise that aims to make medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp a part of our everyday life. "When we decided to work with medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp, we soon realised that in India, the plant had no formal standardization for cultivation or business. Given that this was a fairly unorganised sector, we had to begin with grass root planning and implementation. This led us to work with FPO’s (Farmer Producer Organiations) in the northern region of India," say the founders on the company's website.
Having established two such farmer groups the company currently has a fully functional supply chain and has assisted in the livelihood of over 500 farmers in the Himalayas.
Hemp’s uses are kaleidoscopic. "Pull its fibre out and it’ll give you yarn; chop it into softwood, it’ll give you material to build shelter; harvest its seeds and it will transform into all the health and nutrition a human body needs; study its genetics, and you’ll find medicine. Our design fuses this very potential with the existing industries of agriculture, technology, health and nutrition, to bring together community, impact, and value," said co-founder Yash Kotak at the launch of the store.
The products range from those in the food category, like hemp hearts, hemp seeds and hemp seed oil, to personal care products like body oils, shampoos and soap bars, and wellness products made of medical cannabis or Vijaya leaf extract, such as their CannaReleaf range of edible oils for stress and pain management, including complaints like migraine and arthritis (these are available only with a medical prescription). The company has tied up with licensed Ayurvedic practitioners who will be available by appointment at the store/clinic to prescribe the right products to patients.
The Boheco Life store is open at 295, 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar, Bengaluru, noon-8pm. It follows social distancing measures.
