The show, which first premiered in Paris in 2020, documents the establishment of the House of Chanel and the evolution of the founder's design style, which promoted the idea of functionality in clothing.

Chanel died at the age of 87 in 1971. Thirteen years later, the late Karl Lagerfeld took over as the creative head leading the brand, till his death in 2019. Virginie Viard is the current creative director.
