An ode to things you don’t need but must have

Lana Cotton Slippers by Kontex

This week: Lana Cotton Slippers by Kontex

here are things that a gentleman does. And there are things that he doesn’t.

While most men give astonishing attention to their footwear at work and indeed their evenings, they give a rat’s derriere for home footwear.

Tragic but true.

Now, there is an age for flip flops. A certain happy hour for Havaianas. There is also a pack of Philistines who wear their football club slippers. They may as well sleep in their studs, if you ask me.

Footwear at home demands a certain nuance.

The Monocle store (Monocle.com) is a repository of riches. And one among the many nuggets there are the Lana Cotton Slippers by Kontex. They are made with 100% cotton and have a texture similar to wool. So you experience the warmth without feeling the heat. And at £35 (around Rs2,820) and approximately £8 for shipping, they make considerable sense. Men spend Rs4,500 on far more stupid things.

Are they Japanese? Yes, san.

But not in the crude manga sense.

These lads bear the Imabari seal of quality. I slip into them like an actor into a role. I also have a pair each for my sons. I like to take off my shoes during flights and sashay along the aisle. And I’ll probably be doing more of that now.

And I daresay with the androgyny in contemporary fashion, women too can wear them. But they have to wear pyjamas with these. This stuff doesn’t sit well with the Juicy Couture trackpants.

Indeed, this pair tells the world that you were bred well.

Find a pair on Monocle.com.
