Alexandrie Scented Matches

This week: Alexandrie Scented Matches

Fragrance is critical to me.

Home fragrances, even more.

I work out of my den between 7pm and 9pm every evening.

And I spend quite some time during the day deliberating what fragrance must suffuse my surroundings that evening.

But summer is a bit of a badass.

Candles add to the heat.

Scented matches are so much cooler. Metaphorically speaking.

They have been around for centuries.

They were used as post-poop deodorizers in refined restrooms across the world.

Over the centuries, the world evolved.

Sulphur became a swear word.

It was harmful and highly flammable.

Therefore, for years, matches fell on their face after sliding down the slide of style.

Up until now.

The Alexandrie Scented Matches from Buly 1803 seem to have been baptized by God.

They are cut to a larger length in tender wood. They are then coated with a scented solution. Vanilla is my go-to girl.

Light one up and the room comes alive with admiration in one swoop.

The length also means that they serve as a poetic preface to lighting a candle.

The Dandy may also use them to add some panache to lighting up a cigarette. It is such a Parisian thing to do.

In fact, the Buly 1803 store in Paris is stuffed with civility.

Fragrances. Toothbrushes. Toothpastes and combs.

All the timeless essentials for a lady. Or a gentleman.

€15 (around Rs1,050) per box; Buly1803.com.
